Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) issued the below statement following the Executive Order and statements by the Trump Administration against the Affordable Care Act over the weekend:
“President Trump has provided no specific plan for families who rely on the ACA for their health coverage. The American people deserve to know that they can go to the doctor without worrying about being paralyzed by medical debt.
“The repeal of the ACA without a viable replacement means uncertainty for millions of Americans. Uncertainty for people like one of my constituents who is a cancer survivor and worried about whether she can afford screenings without the ACA. Or a Sacramento resident whose hernia surgery could be a pre-existing condition that may disqualify him from care without the ACA.
“The Administration’s intent to cut Medicaid means states will be forced to choose between covering preventive services for children, and long-term care for seniors and people with disabilities. And life-saving mental health and substance use disorder treatments are on the line, which we need in order to combat the nation’s opioid epidemic in our communities.
“It’s clear that the Trump Administration intends to take us backwards. But Congressional Democrats will continue to stand up for families and demand that their care is protected.”
