Washington, DC – Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui’s (CA-5) growing leadership within the House Democratic Caucus was marked by her appointment to the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee by Speaker-Elect Nancy Pelosi.  The approximately 50 member committee is responsible for reporting committee membership and chairmen recommendations to the full Democratic Caucus, as well as assist with the implementation of the Democratic policy agenda and legislative priorities.
 

“The American people have loudly stated that this country needs a change in direction and by electing a Democratic majority, they have given us an opportunity to enact policies that will benefit all Americans.  To accomplish this goal and retain our majority, we will need an effective team in place when the Democratic majority is sworn-in in January.  My work on the Rules Committee—where I have collaborated extensively with Leadership, Ranking Members, and Members of all of the committees of the House—has given me critical insight into the necessity of bringing the right balance of talents and viewpoints to the House’s committees.
