• In light of today•’s Supreme Court decision regarding campaign finance, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) released the following statement:
• While I respect the Supreme Court's decision and jurisdiction on this issue, it is greatly troubling to me that as a result of their decision, large special interest corporations, including those same Wall Street firms who got us into this economic crisis and who now are fighting financial regulatory reform, would have the ability to pump millions upon millions of dollars into individual Congressional races around the country. Just as corporations have a right to have their voice heard, so do individuals who may not have millions on hand to donate to a preferred candidate. Moving forward, I will work with my colleagues to strike a balance that ensures fairness and continued access for all Americans to our democratic system of government.•
