Congresswoman Matsui Celebrates American Education Week
Stresses Importance of Quality Education

In celebration of American Education Week, today Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) released the following statement:

“This week I would like to join Sacramento’s teachers and parents in celebrating American Education Week and emphasizing the importance of quality public education in America.  As a mother and grandmother, I have witnessed first-hand how essential education is to the development and growth of our nation’s children, and our nation’s future.  Today’s schoolchildren become tomorrow’s leaders, and we must provide them with all of the tools possible so that they may lead wisely and effectively.

“This year, in light of the current economic recession and California’s budget woes, it is especially critical that we ensure our great teachers can continue to provide the excellent service to our community on which we depend.  A quality education system is not a luxury, it is a necessity.”
