Congresswoman Matsui Statement on This Week’s Violence
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) issued the following statement after the shootings in Dallas, Texas and the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile:
“The violence that we have experienced in our country this week has shaken us to our core. We watched the tragic deaths of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile in horror. Then, last night in Dallas we witnessed a disgraceful and vicious act of hate that took the lives of police officers who were on duty to protect the rights we hold dear as Americans.
“During this heart-wrenching and challenging time for our country, we pray that we can rise above our divisions driven by hate and distrust. We pray that victims of senseless violence can find peace amongst the agony. We pray that as citizens, we can recognize that among our differences are commonalities. Commonalities of love and hope, family and faith. These values must drive our dialogue in our efforts to process our collective pain and commit to the principles of non-violent action.”
