Rep. Doris Matsui Receives Congressional Honors Award
Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) was presented with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Congressional Honors Award. The National Capital Chapter of the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society grants this award annually to Members of Congress for their support of initiatives fro cancer research and patient services. Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY) also received the award this year.
“I am honored to be presented with this award. Cancer touches each of us in one way or another, and I believe we must take action now to secure a future free of the disease,” said Rep. Matsui.
Rep. Matsui has sponsored legislation addressing bone marrow disease, and led an effort to secure dedicated blood cancer research funding at the Department of Defense.
The Congressional Honors Award was established in 2001 in memory of revered Congressman Joe Moakley, who succumbed to leukemia. The program also supports funding for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s research programs, providing support for researchers at the country’s leading research facilities.
“In Congress, it is our responsibility to invest in a healthier America for the future. I look at my grandchildren and want them to live long and healthy lives. Putting our resources into research will help secure that future,” said Rep. Matsui.
