Rep. Doris Matsui Calls for Responsible End to the War
November 6, 2007
Today, Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-5) commented on the fact that this has been the deadliest year of the war in Iraq. At least 852 American military personnel have died in Iraq so far this year, marking the highest annual toll since the war began in March 2003.
“The President must begin a responsible redeployment of our troops from Iraq. The American people have called for an end to this misguided war without the loss of more American soldiers. Yet here we are, marking this tragic benchmark of the deadliest year of the war.
“I am committed to bringing this war to a rapid and responsible end and have supported legislation to do just that. We must not put our troops in harm’s way any longer.
“Despite being called on again and again by the American people and Congress to end the war, the President stubbornly refuses to yield. While we must do right by the troops, this war simply must come to an end.”
