Congresswoman Matsui Statement on Equal Pay Day
Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), Chair of the Democratic Women’s Working Group (DWWG), released the following statement to mark Equal Pay Day:
“In a country as extraordinary as America, the idea that my granddaughter will one day enter the workforce and not receive equal pay for equal work is unacceptable,” said Congresswoman Matsui.
“Today, a woman’s role in the workforce has changed dramatically, and yet the pay gap remains.  We made important progress with the passage of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act but there is more work to be done. Congress must pass the Paycheck Fairness Act so that women have an opportunity to fully contribute to our economy, provide for their families, and earn a secure retirement.
“Paycheck fairness is not just a women’s issue, it is an economic issue. As we mark Equal Pay Day, Congress must recommit to closing the pay gap, so that future generations of women, and their families, can reach their full earnings potential.”
