Congresswoman Matsui Announces New Staff Additions, Promotions

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) announced the promotion of Megan Sussman Herber as Legislative Director, Lauren Dart as Communications Director, and Jonathan Gilbert as Senior Legislative Assistant. The Congresswoman also announced the hiring of Alex Damato as Tech Advisor & Senior Legislative Assistant and Robert Clark as Staff Assistant in her Washington, D.C. office.

“Megan, Lauren, and Jonathan have proved to be instrumental team members over the last few years in my office, and I know they will continue to make a valuable impact in their new leadership roles,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “I’m also pleased to welcome Alex to our leadership team, whose tech and telecom expertise will be vital as Sacramento continues to become a center for innovation in our digital economy.” 

Megan Herber has been promoted to Legislative Director after three years in the Congresswoman’s office. As Senior Legislative Assistant, she served as the Congresswoman’s primary policy advisor on health policy and seniors issues.  In addition to continuing to focus on those policy areas, Herber will cover labor policy and women’s issues for the Congresswoman. Herber started her Congressional career in the office of former Senator Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) after four years working with hospital clients in California. She has a Master’s degree in public health from The George Washington University, and received her B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley. 

Lauren Dart has been promoted to Communications Director after two years in the Congresswoman’s office serving as Press Secretary. She will continue to manage the Congresswoman’s communications portfolio, including her digital platforms. Dart previously worked in the private sector on energy and tech policy at Kountoupes Denham Carr & Reid. She has a Master’s degree from The George Washington University’s School of Media and Public Affairs, and received her B.A. from the University of Virginia.

Jonathan Gilbert has been promoted to Senior Legislative Assistant after two years in the Congresswoman’s office serving as Legislative Assistant. In addition to continuing to focus on energy, environment, transportation, foreign affairs, and immigration, Gilbert will work on flood control policy for the Congresswoman. Gilbert, a Sacramento native, started his Congressional career in the office of Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). He holds a B.A. from the University of California at Los Angeles, and as a student there he served as an intern for Congresswoman Matsui.

Alex Damato has been hired as the Congresswoman’s Tech Advisor and Senior Legislative Assistant. Damato most recently served in the office of Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) as a Tech & Telecom Aide. Previously, he worked in the office of former Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). In addition to focusing on tech and telecom policy for the Congresswoman, Damato will cover tax, education, judiciary, trade, housing, and national service policy. He has a B.A. from Colgate University.

Additionally, Robert Clark has joined Congresswoman Matsui’s office as a Staff Assistant. He previously interned with Congressman Tony Cárdenas (D-CA). He is a California native and a graduate of the University of Southern California.
