Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Matsui (D-CA) released the following statement on President Trump’s State of the Union address tonight:
“Claims about growth and prosperity for the middle class don’t stack up when this President has spent the last year trying to rip health care away from families and double down on the trickle-down economics that have failed the American people time and time again.
“Empty promises about fighting the opioid epidemic fall short when this President has spent his time in office trying to cut the very programs and services that need to be expanded to bolster behavioral health care in this country.
“So-called “plans” to reform our immigration system are disingenuous when they’re delivered by a President who is advancing a misguided anti-immigrant agenda by sowing divisions between Americans.
“Americans are looking for more than hollow assurances. They deserve real investments in policies that spur innovation, economic growth, and opportunities for everyone to succeed in the 21st century economy.”
