Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) released the following statement on President Trump’s budget blueprint:

“After driving up the deficit with a tax plan that puts billionaires first, it is no surprise that President Trump’s budget prioritizes cuts that will hurt hardworking Americans.

“The President has laid out his intentions to repeal the Affordable Care Act, jeopardize Medicare, and slash Medicaid, all of which will harm people’s ability to access essential health care services and long term care. His plan to reduce education spending and undermine clean energy programs will only hurt our children and grandchildren’s futures. President Trump’s refusal to value programs that enrich our communities, like public broadcasting, national service programs, and the arts, is extremely damaging.

“The President’s so-called infrastructure plan that was released today further demonstrates his unwillingness to make the investments we need for our roads, bridges, and rail systems. Our infrastructure challenge will require a strong federal commitment. President Trump’s plan to leave states and localities with the bill, while undermining environmental protections, is unacceptable.

“As we move forward with the Congressional appropriations process, I urge my colleagues to reject these misguided proposals from the President, and instead, make the strong investments we need in our country’s future growth and prosperity.”
