Matsui Statement on Health Provisions Included in House Omnibus Bill
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Matsui (D-CA) issued the following statement on several health care provisions in the omnibus for fiscal year 2018:
“I’m pleased that the fiscal year 2018 omnibus includes needed resources for many of my public health priorities including additional funding to combat the opioid epidemic and increased funding for Community Health Centers and medical research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). I’m particularly encouraged that $100 million in new funding will be dedicated for community behavioral health clinics, which I have long championed as part of my efforts to increase parity between mental and physical healthcare. It’s also important that Democratic negotiators were able to block efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and Title X family planning funding, both critical health care resources for women.
“I am disappointed that no health care marketplace stabilization measures were included in this bill. Families urgently need us to take action in order to prevent insurance premium hikes. I will continue to fight for access to care and investments in programs that make our health care ecosystem stronger and more inclusive.”
