Congresswoman Matsui Co-Sponsors the Dream and Promise Act of 2019
Washington, March 12, 2019
Washington, D.C. – Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) today joined Reps. Lucille Roybal-Allard (D-CA), Nydia Velazquez (D-NY), and Yvette Clarke (D-NY) in co-sponsoring H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act of 2019. This legislation will provide a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients, individuals with Temporary Protected Status (TPS), and individuals with Deferred Enforced Departure status (DED).
In addition to a pathway to citizenship, this legislation provides DACA recipients with access to federal financial aid as well as gives TPS, DED, and DACA recipients conditional permanent resident status, including access to professional, commercial, and business licenses. It also allows eligible deported DACA recipients to apply for relief from abroad.
“Time is running out for many of these individuals, which is why it’s critical that we pass this legislation immediately,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “DACA recipients, individuals with TPS and DED are all dreamers who are trying to build a better life for themselves and their families. They are an integral part of our community and our nation, from doctors to teachers to our neighbors, and they deserve a pathway to citizenship.”
