Washington, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement condemning President Trump’s family separation policy and the living conditions for innocent children at the border.

“The Trump Administration is jeopardizing the lives of innocent children in the name of scoring political points and fulfilling bigoted campaign promises. This must end. Every child is sacred and the horrific trauma the federal government is subjecting them to goes against all of our values as a nation,” said Congresswoman Matsui.

“I grieve for these children. Now it is time to turn grief into action. We need wholesale reform of our immigration system so that asylum seekers are not treated like criminals but like human beings. That’s why I am working with my colleagues to travel to the border in the coming days, so that we can investigate these tragedies and bring an end to this,” added Matsui. “I will carry your voices and your message of hope, love, and compassion with me, and I will continue fighting to hold President Trump accountable and do everything in my power to ensure these children are rescued and returned to their loving families.”
