Matsui, Lowenthal Lead California House Delegation Members in Urging Additional Federal Relief to Higher Education
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) and Congressman Alan Lowenthal (CA-47), along with 39 Members of the California House delegation, called on House leadership today to ensure that higher education institutions in California receive additional recovery funding in any future pandemic-related relief packages.
“Higher education institutions are rooted in our communities, and serve as hubs of economic growth and innovation, creating jobs and preparing students for the future.” said Congresswoman Matsui. “As this crisis has affected every corner of society, we must protect and stabilize these essential institutions and ensure that they can continue to provide high quality learning environments for the next generation of American workers and thought-leaders.”
“As a former university professor, I have seen firsthand the transformative and empowering impact that higher education can have on the lives of students, and the impact these students can have on our society,” said Congressman Lowenthal. “Recovery from this crisis will require the best and the brightest our nation can provide, and our higher education system is uniquely positioned to provide new generations of Americans armed with the skills and abilities we will need. It is absolutely critical during this crisis that we do not leave behind these institutions, the students they serve, nor the staff they employ.“
