Matsui Issues Statement on the Supreme Court's Decision to Uphold DACA

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-6), issued the following statement on the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA).

“Today, the Supreme Court ruled that the Trump Administration’s irresponsible attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) was arbitrary and capricious and therefore unlawful,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “America will always be a nation of immigrants and a country of diverse people, ideas, and communities. Our country understands that immigrants and Dreamers add to the richness and prosperity of all our communities. The ruling today has provided important relief for DACA recipients – protecting over 700,000 Dreamers from being ripped from their families, communities and country they call home.”

“However, DACA has always provided only temporary relief for recipients,” Matsui continued. “If we are to truly succeed, Congress must enact lawful permanent status for DACA recipients and other immigrants.  I believe it is the moral duty of Congress to address DACA immediately. The Senate has shirked its duty to the people by failing to take swift and decisive action to provide a path to citizenship. It is time for Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to take up and pass the Dream and Promise Act, not just for the prosperity of our country, but in recognition of the dignity, rights, and contributions of our Dreamers.”
