SACRAMENTO, CA – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) and the Sacramento County Airport System announced more than $13 million in Coronavirus relief funding to cover costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport.
“The Sacramento County Airport System and Sacramento International Airport are dynamic connectors for our region – spurring economic growth and bringing us visitors from across the country,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “In a time of uncertainty for many Americans, we must equip these vital economic drivers to thrive well into the future. While we make progress on the road to recovery, I will continue to fight for the resources that our airports need to continue their operations and keep travelers safe. I thank Cindy Nichol for her leadership and the entire Sacramento County Airport System staff for their dedication throughout this crisis.”
“We’re thrilled to be receiving this stimulus funding, and greatly appreciate the support from our congressional members, including Congresswoman Matsui,” said Cindy Nichol, Sacramento County’s Director of Airports. “The funding comes at a critical time with record low passenger numbers over the past year due to COVID-19. The stimulus funds will help keep the County’s airports financially sound, while enabling us to assist the airlines, concessionaires and other tenants serving our airports, who are also struggling due to the unprecedented dearth of passengers.”
This grant is funded by the Coronavirus Relief and Response Supplemental Appropriations (CRRSA) Act of 2020 which passed Congress in December of last year. Congresswoman Matsui is a long-time champion of the Sacramento County Airport System and has called for additional support in every COVID-19 relief package.
In total, the Sacramento County Airport System was awarded $13,355,837. The total amount includes $1,382,367 that will provide tenant relief to concessionaires operating at Sacramento International Airport.
