Congresswoman Matsui Statement on Passage of the Veterans Access, Choice & Accountability Act

Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement on the House passage of the Conference Report on H.R. 3230, the Veterans Access, Choice and Accountability Act:

“Our nation has a sacred trust with the men and women who have served our country in uniform.  Sadly, the widespread reports of misconduct within the VA health care system make it clear that our nation was failing our veterans when they most needed our support.  I am pleased that the House today voted overwhelmingly in support of improving accountability and access to care for our veterans.

“The bill includes a number of key priorities including immediate access to care for veterans, increased accountability measures for the VA, bolstering of VA medical staff, state-of-the-art medical facilities, greater access to mental health services, and improved care for victims of military sexual trauma.  The passage of this bill is a prime example of what Congress can accomplish on behalf of the American people when we work in a bipartisan, bicameral fashion.

“I will continue working in Congress, and at home in Sacramento, to ensure that all of our veterans have the care and support they need and deserve.  I encourage local veterans who are having difficulty with the VA to reach out to my district office, and we will do everything we can to help.”
