$115 million allocated for Sacramento flood protection this year in the Army Corps of Engineers Work Plan, $17 million more than expected
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) released the following statement in response to the increased amount allocated for Sacramento flood protection projects in the 2013 Army Corps of Engineers Work Plan:
“Flood protection is essential to the safety and economic vitality of our region, and it remains my number one priority and a top priority for many in the Sacramento region. I am pleased that Sacramento’s projects are receiving more funding than originally allocated in 2013– it speaks to the recognition of our urgent need to bolster our flood defenses. This funding is critical for Sacramento’s flood protection priorities and will help our region achieve 200-year flood protection, protecting lives, property and infrastructure. I will continue to fight for full funding of our flood protection projects.”
The Army Corps of Engineers Work Plan for Fiscal Year 2013 provides $115 million for Sacramento’s flood protection projects. This is an increase of $17 million over what the President requested in his FY 2013 budget. The Work Plan provides the following funding for Sacramento’s flood protection projects:
Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project - $98,800,000 To continue construction on the auxiliary spillway, which will provide greater efficiency in managing flood storage in Folsom Reservoir and 200-year level of protection to much of Sacramento.
American River Watershed Common Features - $13,500,000 For levee work along the American River Watershed, including further design work in support of levee improvements in Natomas and across Sacramento.
Folsom Dam Raise - $2,000,000 To raise the Folsom Dam to improve the region’s flood protection.
South Sacramento Streams - $700,000 To improve flood protection in the south Sacramento area.
