Congresswoman Matsui Swears In New Sacramento Postmaster

CA • Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) administered the oath of office for Sacramento•’s new postmaster, Jeffrey C. Lelevich.  Lelevich had been the acting postmaster in Sacramento since February after previously holding the same position in Sonoma, Santa Rosa and most recently, Redding.  Having worked for the Postal Service since he began as a city carrier in 1985, Lelevich will bring a wealth of experience to the position.

The United States Postal Service (USPS) is an independent agency of the United States government responsible for providing postal service in the United States.  It is one of the few government agencies explicitly authorized by the United States Constitution.  The Postal Service is the foundation of a $1 trillion industry that provides 7.5 million jobs, even while receiving no taxpayer subsidies.

• For over two centuries the Postal Service has enabled Americans to communicate with each other,• said Congresswoman Matsui.  • Letter carriers have delivered everything from the good news of recent births to the sad news of the loss of loved ones, to the routine monthly bills, periodicals, college acceptance letters and everything in between.  I am confident that Jeffrey Lelevich will do an outstanding job as Sacramento•’s new postmaster, and facilitate this tradition for generations to come.•
