Congresswoman Matsui Votes Against Resolution Disapproving of Net Neutrality RulesFOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE CONTACT: MARA LEE Congresswoman Matsui Votes Against Resolution Disapproving of Net Neutrality Rules • Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA), a Member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, voted against H.J.Res.37, legislation disapproving of Federal Communications Commission•’s (FCC) Open Internet Order, also known as Net Neutrality rules. The joint resolution passed the House by a vote of 240 to 179. • The FCC's Open Internet Order will bring clarity to the broadband and high-tech economy,• said Congresswoman Matsui. • The Rules will promote competition, innovation, job creation and protect consumers. These common sense rules should not be controversial, let alone repealed, particularly when an overwhelming number of stakeholders and economists support the FCC Order. H.J.Res. 37 will discourage competition, innovation and job creation. It is critical that we continue to support a free and open Internet for all Americans.• Congresswoman Matsui submitted an amendment to H.J. Res. 37 to preserve the portion of the Open Internet Order that imposes a transparency requirement on broadband providers, so that consumers are able to make informed choices. The transparency requirement is the least controversial aspect of the Open Internet Order and is supported both by broadband industry and consumer groups. However, due to the closed process, the Republican Majority barred any amendments from consideration. • The transparency requirement is essential for providing consumers and innovators with the information to make informed decisions, for creating trust in the broadband technology sector, and for increasing broadband adoption rates,• added Matsui. • This disapproval resolution, and especially a repeal of the transparency requirement, will surely have unintended consequences for industry and consumers alike.• Congresswoman Matsui also voted against the measure which called for consideration of H.J.37 today • precisely the time when the House should be focused on passing legislation to keep the government open.
