Rep. Doris Matsui Applauds Budget Request for Sacramento•’s Transportation Projects
FY 2012 Federal Budget Proposes $50 Million for Sacramento RT

• Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) issued the following statement today following the release of President Obama•’s budget outline for Fiscal Year 2012, which cuts the overall deficit by $1.1 trillion, but recommends $50 million for the South Line Phase II Extension for Sacramento Rapid Transit:

• I am so pleased to see that the South Line Phase II Extension funding was included in the President•’s budget proposal.  An additional $50 million federal investment in this project will help enable RT to complete this project in a timely manner, spur much-needed hiring in our construction sector, and provide additional public transportation options to Sacramento residents.•

• The Administration•’s budget makes cuts for a wide array of worthy programs, some of which I have concerns with.  But I applaud the commitment they have shown to prioritizing the infrastructure projects that will create jobs, improve public safety, and invest in public transit needs.•

Sacramento Vice Mayor Bonnie Pennell added, • Our community is excited about the major funding support for South Line Phase II to Cosumnes River College.  They have waited a long time and they can see the trains coming!  I want to thank our President, and our local champion, Congresswoman Doris Matsui for her tireless efforts on behalf of the community of Sacramento.•
