Congresswoman Matsui Commemorates Rich History of Cinco De Mayo
CA • Today, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D-Sacramento) commemorated the celebration of Cinco de Mayo, which marks the triumph of the Mexican people over the French Army in the battle of Puebla in 1862.
• Cinco de Mayo is a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of Latinos in the United States and the great contributions Mexican-Americans continue to make to our society,• said Congresswoman Matsui. • I join with many across Sacramento in celebrating that history today, and am committed to continuing my work in Congress to provide all Americans with the resources and opportunities they need to realize the American dream. Today, we say thank you to our local Latino community for making our economy stronger and our culture more vibrant.•
Congresswoman Matsui also took the opportunity to urge all Sacramento residents to participate in the 2010 Census. To date, only 74 percent of Sacramentans have returned their forms, and in order for our community to get the federal resources we deserve, it is critical for our community to have full participation. Census workers are currently making home visits to those who have not returned their forms, and Rep. Matsui urges Sacramentans to do their civic duty and complete their Census form.
