MATSUI ANNOUNCES $1.5 MILLION OF FEDERAL FUNDING FOR COMMUNICARE HEALTH CENTERS

September 6, 2023

SACRAMENTO, CA – An upgraded electronic health record (EHR) system will be coming to CommuniCare Health Centers thanks to federal funding secured by Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07).She announced the funding this morning alongside local leaders.

An infusion of $1,500,000 in federal dollars will help fund the improvements. EHRs have become a necessary component of modern health care. EHR systems enable the timely transfer of health information – allowing providers to communicate with patients more seamlessly, coordinate care and improve patient outcomes.

The federal funds will help CommuniCare implement Epic, an EHR system that is widely used throughout the region. Congresswoman Matsui championed the funding as part of the FY 23 government funding omnibus package that was signed by President Biden in late December.

“CommuniCare has had a transformative impact across our region opening up access to care and ensuring families can be proactive about their health,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “As our world becomes more and more digital and interconnected, robust, interoperable platforms like Epic are a necessity for patients and providers. The benefits are clear: connected, coordinated care leads to better health outcomes and better overall quality of care. I am proud to have championed this $1.5 million of federal funding to help CommuniCare continue to provide for our community.”

“We are so grateful to Congresswoman Matsui for her advocacy in Washington on behalf of CommuniCare Health Centers and this vital upgrade to our EHR system,” said Dr. Melissa Marshall, CEO, CommuniCare Health Centers. “Technology is pivotal to providing patient care in a complex environment. Upgrading our electronic health records system will be invaluable in our mission to provide the highest quality, comprehensive care to all, regardless of insurance or ability to pay.”
