MATSUI STATEMENT ON THE HOUSE PASSING A WAR POWERS RESOLUTION TO END TRUMP’S ILLEGAL WAR WITH IRAN
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-07) issued the following statement on the House passing H. Con. Res. 86, which will direct Trump, pursuant of section 5(c) of the War Powers Resolution, to remove the United States Armed Forces from hostilities against Iran.
“Today, the House took a critical step toward ending Donald Trump’s war of choice in Iran. I have fiercely opposed this conflict from day one because it never should have happened. Congress never authorized it, and American families should never have been forced to bear the consequences of Donald Trump’s recklessness,” said Congresswoman Matsui. “This vote did not happen by accident. Americans spoke out. Sacramentans made their voices heard. And I carried those voices with me to the House floor. After months of pressure and persistence from Democrats, Republicans were forced to confront the consequences of President Trump’s illegal actions.”
“Donald Trump has made it clear that the impact of this war on American families is not his concern. It is mine,” Matsui continued. “I think about the families paying more at the gas pump. I think about my neighbors being crushed by rising costs. I think about our service members being put in harm’s way and their families here at home. That’s why I have voted yes on every war powers resolution brought forward. Congress must exercise its constitutional authority and bring this war to an end.”
