Congresswoman Doris Matsui Celebrates Cinco de Mayo and Hispanic Contributions to Our Community

On the eve of Cinco de Mayo, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA - 05) joined with millions of Americans in recognizing the historic significance of Cinco de Mayo, and issued the following statement after voting in support of H.Res. 230, which recognizes the historical significance of the Mexican holiday of Cinco de Mayo:

"Hispanic-Americans share with their fellow Americans the common goals of freedom, opportunity, and a chance to build a better life. Today, we say thank you to our Hispanic community for making our economy stronger and our culture more vibrant. And today, we honor leaders like our own Joe Serna, the first Hispanic Mayor of Sacramento, who spent his entire life working for civil rights for all Sacramentans, and continues to inspire us to push for equal rights, honest wages, and fair treatment."
