Congresswoman Doris Matsui Continues "Renewable Energy for a Renewed Economy Tour" Tomorrow
Sacramento, CA - Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) will continue her three-day Sacramento energy tour, "Renewable Energy for a Renewed Economy Tour," tomorrow, Wednesday, April 15th, 2009 by visiting the UC Davis Biogas Energy Project and the Renewable Energy Testing Center, two examples of green technology sites in the Sacramento region that are helping to set a national trend of using clean energy technology to create new jobs and a new economy.
"I am looking forward to continuing my Renewable Energy for a Renewed Economy Tour and see first-hand how our local businesses and universities are collaborating to create and share new, clean technologies that will help our local economy, reduce our carbon emissions, and protect our environment," said Congresswoman Matsui.
Congresswoman Matsui will start the day at 9:30 AM with a tour of the UC Davis Biogas Energy Project with UC Davis Chancellor Larry Vanderhoef, UC Davis Professor Ruihong Zhang, and Onsite Power Systems CEO David Konwinski and a demonstration of the new, advanced anaerobic digestion technology, Anaerobic Phased Solids Digester (APS-Digester). This technology converts various organic wastes into biogas fuels and other valuable products.
In addition to touring the facilities, Congresswoman Matsui will have the opportunity to meet with UC Davis researchers and discus their work. They will discuss the green technology investments of the UC Davis Energy Institute, which encompasses multiple research approaches including transportation and environment, hybrid vehicles, bioenergy and biofuel research, wind energy, solar energy and energy efficiency. Established in 2007, the breadth and depth of energy research on the campus supports the vision for building a world-class institute in energy with particular focus on sustainable energy system design in the Sacramento region.
Rep. Matsui will then head to the Renewable Energy Testing Center (RETC). The RETC is a unique facility designed and built for the testing and validation of renewable energy technologies related to biomass feedstock and organic waste, with a particular focus on conversion into biofuels for transportation. Last year, Rep. Matsui secured $1.6 million in federal funding for the RETC to help them evaluate the performance of renewable energy and renewable fuel-production technologies. Following a tour of the facilities, she will meet with three Sacramento-based clean tech companies: Sierra Energy; Ternion Bio Industries; and Pacific Renewable Fuels to learn how their businesses will work with the Renewable Energy Testing Center.
