Congresswoman Doris Matsui Expresses Her Support for Focus the Nation Town Halls Happening Across the Nation
Town Halls Are Bringing Climate Change to the Forefront of National Dialogue and Helping to Accelerate Transition to a Clean Energy Future

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) expressed her support for Focus the Nation's Town Halls, which are being organized by hundreds of youth who are driving today's clean energy movement. The success of the events is a result of multi-sector and multi-generational partnerships that are being built by young people in their communities across the United States.

Rep. Matsui issued the following statement today:

"Young people represent the future and will inherit the earth; they are therefore vital to fighting global warming and creating the clean energy economy of the future. I am encouraged to see Focus the Nation harness young Americans' enthusiasm for positive environmental change, change that I am working toward as well through my seat on the Energy and Commerce Committee. By providing a channel for young leaders to engage in civic discourse through town hall meetings across the country, Focus the Nation is contributing to a cleaner environment and helping to lay the groundwork for a new kind of American economy that produces clean, renewable energy to be used at home and exported around the world. I applaud and support these efforts.

"Unless we move quickly to address the challenge of global warming, its impacts will become increasingly detrimental and will threaten future generations' ways of life. This is why it is critical that Congress take action now to reduce our carbon emissions in a way that invests in clean energy job creation and preserves our environment for the future. Taking these steps will put the United States at the forefront of green technologies that will lead the rest of the world today and long into the future."
