Congresswoman Doris Matsui Kicked-off Three-day "Renewable Energy for a Renewed Economy Tour"
Visits Local LEED Certified Office Building on First Stop

Sacramento, CA - Rep. Doris Matsui (CA-05) kicked-off her three-day Sacramento energy tour, "Renewable Energy for a Renewed Economy Tour," today by visiting a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certified office building, Gateway Tower East, located in South Natomas on her first stop. Congresswoman Matsui's Renewable Energy for a Renewed Economy Tour includes tours of and meetings with Sacramento clean energy and green technology businesses.

"I enjoyed seeing how the specific design, technological, and environmental aspects were integrated into the Gateway Tower East building and believe it will be used as a model of energy efficiency and sustainable building design throughout our community," said Rep. Matsui after the tour. "I am looking forward to visiting a host of green companies located right here in Sacramento who are at the heart of the new, green economy."

As a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and the Energy and Environment Subcommittee, Rep. Matsui has been a long-time advocate of renewable energy and its benefits to the environment and to the economy.

Last month, Congresswoman Matsui introduced the Smart Planning for Smart Growth Act of 2009, which aligns infrastructure and land use planning with greenhouse gas reduction goals to preserve resources and fight climate change. This legislation, H.R. 1780, was recently included in the comprehensive climate change and energy legislation that was introduced by Energy and Commerce Chairman Henry Waxman and Energy and Environment Subcommittee Chairman Ed Markey, the American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.
