Congresswoman Doris Matsui to Serve on House Energy and Commerce Health and Communications and Technology Subcommittees
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) announced her subcommittee assignments for the 114th Congress. The Congresswoman continues to represent Sacramento on the influential House Committee on Energy and Commerce, which she was first appointed to in 2008. She will serve on two of the committee's most essential subcommittees, Health and Communications and Technology.
"As we begin the 114th Congress, we must tackle the big issues and advance legislation that will strengthen our economy, further innovation, ensure the health of all Americans, and create jobs. These subcommittee assignments provide a great platform to address these issues and advocate for the Sacramento region," said Congresswoman Matsui.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is an exclusive committee that holds jurisdiction over issues impacting the daily lives of every American. As a member, the Congresswoman crafts legislation to address critical issues facing the nation, including health care, energy policy, technology, consumer protection, food safety, environmental quality and American manufacturing.
Congresswoman Matsui will serve on the Health subcommittee, one of the most active subcommittees in the House. It has jurisdiction over public health, mental health, biomedical research and development, health information technology, privacy, health insurance including Medicare and Medicaid, and the regulation of food, drugs, and cosmetics. This Congress, the subcommittee is working on introducing and passing the 21st Century Cures, an initiative to accelerate the pace of cures and medical breakthroughs in the United States.
She is also returning as a senior member of the Communications and Technology subcommittee. The subcommittee takes action on the most critical technology issues of today including net neutrality, spectrum, cybersecurity, data security and public safety communications. This Congress, the subcommittee is planning an update of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, among other issues.
