Congresswoman Matsui Announcement YouthBuild Grant for

Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps

Congresswoman Doris Matsui today announced that the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps (SRCC) has received a U.S. Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration YouthBuild grant. The $1,000,000 grant will allow SRCC, a nonprofit organization that provides training and jobs for young adults, to expand its programming to serve greater numbers of at-risk youth.

"For several decades, the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps has been a positive force in Sacramento for both the youth it serves and the community at large," said Congresswoman Matsui. "I am thrilled that the SRCC can continue its great work, and that even more young Sacramentans will grow and develop with the help of this important federal grant."

andquot;We are so pleased to be awarded the YouthBuild grant," said SRCC Executive Director David De Mers. "With this grant the SRCC and our partners will continue working within Sacramentoand#39;s Promise Zone communities to provide a clear avenue to success, living wage jobs in the building trades, and hope for the future for young men and women who otherwise would not have had these opportunities.andquot;

Congresswoman Matsui recently helped Sacramento earn a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development "Promise Zone" designation, which will spur job creation, leverage private investment and expand education opportunities in the city. Utilizing all three, the Sacramento Regional Conservation Corps has been at the forefront of efforts to provide at-risk youth in the Promise Zone with the education and employment skills necessary to succeed.
