Congresswoman Matsui Announces California Capital Receives Small Business Administration Women's Business Center Designation

Designation will help California Capital serve local female entrepreneurs, expand economy and create critical jobs

CA - Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-05) today announced that the California Capital Financial Development Corporation has received designation as a Small Business Administration (SBA) Women's Business Center. This designation is given by SBA to organizations that provide assistance to women entrepreneurs to help them start and grow their businesses.

"I am pleased that California Capital has received the Women's Business Center designation from the SBA," said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. "As the economy continues to recover, programs such as the WBC are critical in bolstering the growth of women-owned businesses and their potential to create needed jobs. This designation will help California Capital serve many female entrepreneurs and small business owners in the Sacramento region for years to come."

Over the past year, Congresswoman Matsui wrote several letters to the SBA supporting California Capital's efforts to receive the WBC designation. With this new designation, California Capital will work with the SBA to provide capital and development assistance in order to increase economic opportunities for underserved communities and persons by offering a wide range of flexible financial products and services.

"We are excited about the opportunity to join the existing nationwide network of nearly 100 Women's Business Centers serving women and underserved entrepreneurs in the Northern Central Valley," said Clarence Williams, President of California Capital. "Assisting women entrepreneurs is an important strategic step in growing our local economy, especially considering the key role small businesses play as a source of employment and opportunity in our region."

California Capital is the first WBC in the Sacramento region. It administers a variety of programs promoting small business development and growth in its region, which includes 23 Northern California counties stretching from San Joaquin, north to the Oregon border, and east to Lake Tahoe.

"Since its inception in 1982, California Capital has been instrumental in educating underserved communities throughout the Sacramento region by offering various business workshops, bilingual training, business plan training, counseling, mentoring, loan packaging andamp; small business loans," said Jim O'Neal, Sacramento SBA District Director. "The U.S. Small Business Administration looks forward to expanding our ongoing partnership with California Capital to now include the Women's Business Center to help woman-owned business startups and entrepreneurs."
