Congresswoman Matsui Announces Close to $3 Million in Homeland Security Funding for the Sacramento Region
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) announced that Sacramento will receive nearly $3 million through the Department of Homeland Security's Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI). The funding will be used toward building Sacramento's capacity to prevent, mitigate, respond to, and recover from potential acts of terrorism.
"Keeping our families and communities safe is my number one priority, and this funding will help ensure our security protocols meet the challenges of the 21st century," said Congresswoman Matsui. "We must remain vigilant in these efforts, and I will continue to make sure that our growing city has the resources needed to protect residents against potential security threats."
"We are incredibly grateful for the Urban Areas Security Initiative (UASI) Program and how those funds will assist in enhancing our community's safety and security. We are especially appreciative of Congresswoman Matsui's leadership and continued support for Homeland Security opportunities that impact safety in our region," said Sacramento Police Chief Samuel D. Somers, Jr.
Congresswoman Matsui has consistently advocated for increased UASI funding. On March 26, 2015, she wrote a joint letter to the House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee calling for more resources towards this critical program for high-density urban areas.
