Congresswoman Matsui Announces Free Tax Assistance Kick Off Event Tomorrow
Highlights Free Workshops on Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) Awareness Day
CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), a member of the Sacramento Coalition for Working Families, announced a free tax assistance event at Grant High School on January 26th at 11:00 AM. This Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) event marks the first of a number of workshops to be hosted in the Sacramento region. A full list of workshops and additional information can be found here.
"These free workshops offer valuable assistance to families who are eligible for income tax credits but have yet to receive them," said Congresswoman Matsui. "In these tough economic times, families cannot afford to miss out on resources they have earned."
The Sacramento Coalition for Working Families (SCWF) was created in 2005 to promote the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) in the Sacramento region after millions of tax credits were going unclaimed every year. In fact, the credit goes unclaimed by 25 percent of eligible tax filers in the region. For 2012, a family with three or more children and an income of less than $50,2470, may be eligible for a $5,891 tax credit. SCWF works to encourage families to utilize available resources and apply for tax credits for which they qualify. SCWF also offers financial planning assistance.
