Congresswoman Matsui announces the NEA grant of $125,000 to support public art in Sacramento and West Sacramento
Grant will allow the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento to create a public art master plan that will connect the two sides of the Sacramento River
CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui released the following statement in response to the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) awarding the City of Sacramento an Our Town grant of $125,000 to create a master plan for the placement of public art along the Sacramento River in partnership with the City of West Sacramento and the Crocker Art Museum.
"andlsquo;River Crossing' is the right idea at the right time, as it will bring together the cities of Sacramento and West Sacramento to fill the demand for public art. We must to continue to elevate the arts in our community and I am confident that this grant will help make that happen" said Congresswoman Matsui. "I am pleased that the funding from the National Endowment for the Arts will jumpstart their planning efforts, as this grant will result in an even more beautiful riverfront that defines our region's core."
"I am thrilled with the collaboration that has developed between Sacramento and West Sacramento in partnership with the Crocker Art Museum to produce a master plan and artworks that unite our river cities. Thank you to the National Endowment for the Arts for recognizing this unique and timely project that will help strengthen the connection between our cities through art," said Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson.

The NEA's Our Town Program provides a number of grants that encourage partnerships between arts organizations and local government agencies to support efforts to raise the quality of life and artistic opportunity for residents.
