Congresswoman Matsui Announces New Federal Funds for Sacramento Region Community Health Centers
CommuniCare Health Centers and WellSpace Health received a total of $523,570 in Affordable Care Act funding to increase access to primary care
CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) announced that community health clinics in the Sacramento region have received $523,570 in Affordable Care Act (ACA) funding from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to increase access to primary care.
"Community health centers have a long history of providing quality care to the underserved in our communities. These centers change lives, improve health outcomes, and help make the delivery of health care more cost efficient," said Congresswoman Matsui. "The funds announced today as part of the Affordable Care Act will help our region's community health centers increase access to primary care for all individuals, helping achieve the ACA's goal of ensuring affordable, quality health care for all."
CommuniCare Health Centers is receiving $264,442 to expand their behavioral health services. Similarly, WellSpace Health is receiving $259,128 to increase staffing levels at several new sites. A portion of the funding received by WellSpace Health will be used solely to provide care to those who are homeless.
"CommuniCare provides comprehensive primary health services to individuals in Yolo County. We are delighted to receive this funding, which will allow us to hire additional staff and expand our behavioral health services to better serve our growing population. This is the Affordable Care Act at work," said Robin Affrime, Chief Executive Officer for CommuniCare Health Centers.
"This critical Affordable Care Act funding is exactly the right kind of support at just the right time. As the population seeking health care expands, it is essential that we continue to expand our resources to build capacity. I am grateful to Congresswoman Matsui for her support of WellSpace and our region's community health centers. This grant wouldn't have been possible without her support at the federal level," said Dr. Jonathan Porteus, Chief Executive Officer of WellSpace Health."
