Congresswoman Matsui Announces Sacramento to receive $15 million in Federal funds to restore Sacramento Valley Station
DOT Awards TIGER Grant of $15 million

Today, the Department of Transportation (DOT) released the TIGER 2012 discretionary grant awards and announced that Sacramento will receive $15 million to rehabilitate the Sacramento Valley Station.

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) released the following statement:

"I am thrilled that the City of Sacramento has received this highly-competitive grant. The City and I have worked tirelessly with the Department of Transportation to fight for federal funds to continue the transformation of our Railyards. Complete renovation of the historic depot offers an unprecedented opportunity to foster transit-orientated development, and enhance sustainability and transportation safety. This grant allows the city to preserve one of our most iconic and historic buildings, results in significant benefits for passengers, and puts us one step closer towards securing Sacramento as a modern transit center for the region."

Renovation of Sacramento Valley Station is the next step of the intermodal project. It builds upon the Rail Line Relocation project that utilized $37 million dollars of federal funds and will be completed this fall. The station is the 7th busiest Amtrak station in the country, with 1.5 million people using it each year.

The $15 million from the TIGER grant will be matched by $15 million of local funding.
