Congresswoman Matsui Celebrates March as Women's History Month

Today, Congresswoman Doris O. Matsui (D - Sacramento) recognized March as Women's History Month by honoring the contributions of women both nationally and within the Sacramento community, and highlighting recent accomplishments for American women.

"As Sacramento's representative in Congress, I have the opportunity to work with amazing women every day, whether they are my colleagues in the House or Senate, or local small business owners, women that have served in the armed forces, and those dedicated to volunteerism," said Congresswoman Matsui. "Women's History Month lends us all the opportunity to reflect upon how far women in our country have come, and also to recommit ourselves to working on behalf of our mothers, sisters, and daughters."

"During the 111th Congress, we were able to make historic strides for today's women and for future generations, beginning with passing the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act to ensure an even playing field, and culminating with the passage of the health care law that increases access to women's health services. In recent days, we have unfortunately seen an attack on many of our accomplishments - especially in the area of women's health. In Congress, I will continue fighting to protect women's rights and to ensure that we are always moving forward, not backwards."

Congresswoman Matsui serves as a member of the Congressional Women's Caucus and the Democratic Women's Working Group. She is dedicated to helping lead the fight in Congress for policies that ensure equality and opportunity for all women, working on a broad range of issues that affect women and their families including securing good jobs, ensuring equal pay for equal work, improving access to affordable, quality health care and educational opportunities, and a secure retirement.
