Congresswoman Matsui Celebrates Terminal B's Achievement of LEED Silver Status
CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-Sacramento) celebrated the Sacramento International Airport Terminal B's achievement of LEED Silver status. LEED certification is determined by the U.S. Green Building Council, and is the standard for measuring green buildings in the United States and around the world. Terminal B is the largest airport terminal in the U.S. to have achieved LEED Silver status.
Congresswoman Matsui said, "I applaud the Sacramento International Airport for the achievement of LEED Silver status. As we work to make Sacramento the andlsquo;Clean Tech Capital,' Terminal B will stand as a testament to our region's collaborative efforts to improve energy efficiency and support clean energy technologies."
The terminal's Big Build design team worked closely with the SMUD Savings by Design Program to optimize energy efficiency. Efficiency measures in Terminal B include high efficiency boilers for space heating; a heat-reflecting cool roof; dimmable fluorescent and LED lighting; LowE glass to block solar heat gain and reduce use of air conditioning; and combined heat and power co-generation plant to serve power needs.
The terminal's efficient design is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 793 metric tons of carbon dioxide annually - the equivalent of planting more than 33,000 trees or removing 165 cars from the road.
