Congresswoman Matsui expresses continuing concerns as California WaterFix's documents are released

Calls for extended public comment period so stakeholders can analyze changes to project

CA- Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui released the following statement as the State of California published the most recent draft of the California WaterFix Environmental Impact Report and Environmental Impact Statement.

"There is clear agreement that our state needs a truly comprehensive plan to improve the health of the Delta and a secure water supply for all of California, however the reported changes in the environmental documents of the California WaterFix still leave a great deal of unanswered questions and creates more uncertainty in California's water system than it solves," said Congresswoman Matsui.

"Federal agencies still have major questions that need answers and it is clear that the restoration of the Delta is now a lower priority than the twin tunnels which will only harm the health of the Delta's waterways and all those who depend upon it. Local communities and stakeholders need more than a six-week comment period to truly analyze the changes to the project. I urge the State to extend the public comment period to 120 days."

Congresswoman Matsui has been steadfast in raising concerns over how the twin tunnels proposed by the California WaterFix project will impact Sacramento County, the health of the Delta and Northern California's water supply.
