CA Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui hosted a Social Security 75th Anniversary party at the Hart Senior Center to celebrate seventy-five years of this successful program and to reiterate her commitment to strengthening Social Security. The event included remarks by Congresswoman Matsui and representatives of senior organizations, as well as a birthday cake for Social Security.
Social Security is a pillar of our society, representing our nation's promise to preserving the well-being and dignity of its people as they grow older, said Rep. Matsui. For 75 years, Social Security has provided older Americans with stability and security by offering a minimum level of guaranteed income to aging citizens. I am excited to celebrate this historic achievement, and to join with these organizations in solidifying our commitment to strengthening this vital program.
Congresswoman Matsui was joined by representatives from such senior organizations as the Gray Panthers, Older Women's League, California Alliance for Retired Americans, Congress of California Seniors, the AARP, the National Committee to Preserve Social Security, Resources for Independent Living, Sacramento Senior Legal Hotline, and many others.
