Congresswoman Matsui Praises Siemens andamp; Amtrak for Rollout of New, Sacramento-Built Electric Locomotives

Rep. Matsui is a long time champion of Siemens' operations in Sacramento andamp; Amtrak's growth across our nation; Supported local bid for Amtrak contract

CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement on the rollout of the first new electric locomotive by Siemens Mobility USA to serve Amtrak's Northeast Corridor. This locomotive is the first of 70 that are being manufactured in Siemens' Sacramento plant. On this occasion, Congresswoman Matsui said:

"In 2010 we started this effort, and today's delivery of the first new electric locomotives by Siemens Mobility USA to serve Amtrak's Northeast Corridor is a testament to the integral role our region plays in our nation's larger transportation system. The partnership between Siemens and Amtrak created jobs right here in Sacramento, replaced older and dirtier units with more energy efficient ones and adhered to Buy America guidelines. I applaud Siemens, and their employees, for bringing their superior craftsmanship to the project and Amtrak for their commitment to Sacramento. They are laying the groundwork for future growth in Sacramento and across the nation."

In 2010, Congresswoman Matsui wrote a letter to the Chairman of the Board of Directors for Amtrak supporting Siemens bid to build the 70 electric locomotives in their Sacramento plant. Citing the new jobs this contract would create in Sacramento, and the environmental benefits of the new energy efficient locomotives, Congresswoman Matsui argued that Sacramento was the ideal place to build the new trains.
