Stresses Importance of Supporting Our Troops
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA 05) recognized the importance of Memorial Day by releasing the following statement:
Memorial Day affords us the opportunity to pause and honor those heroes whose lives were lost in service to our country. As we take this time to remember these fallen service members, it is important that we persist in working to support all of the men and women who fight everyday to protect our country and our freedoms.
During the 111th Congress, my colleagues and I have passed numerous pieces of legislation that enhance the lives of our military and their families. Just this past week, I have been working with my colleagues on the National Defense Authorization Act, which would provide service members with a much-needed pay 1.9 percent pay increase and implement a number of other vital personnel improvements. It is vital that we support the individuals who protect our liberties, and I will continue to do so.
We must remember, on this Memorial Day, that our nation is involved in two difficult conflicts. We ask more and more of our military families every single day, and every single day they rise to the challenge. Brave men and women both overseas and here at home put on their uniforms and defend our country with pride and honor, and we owe them a debt of gratitude that can never be fully repaid. I will continue working to ensure that both they and their families receive the support they deserve.
