Congresswoman Matsui to Serve as Co-Chair of the Sustainable Energy andamp; Environment Coalition for the 114th Congress

Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) has been unanimously elected by her colleagues to serve as a co-chair of the Sustainable Energy andamp; Environment Coalition (SEEC) for the 114th Congress. She joins Congressmen Gerald Connolly (VA-11) and Paul Tonko (NY-20) in leading the Coalition's efforts to promote clean energy technology, develop renewable energy resources, and address the harmful impacts of climate change.

"I am honored to be elected as a co-chair of the Sustainable Energy andamp; Environment Coalition for the 114th Congress," said Congresswoman Doris Matsui. "SEEC is an effective platform to advocate for Sacramento and our nation's clean energy and environment needs. As Co-Chair, I look forward to working with my colleagues to address climate change, ensure that current environmental standards are upheld, and that we are continuously improving our air and water quality.andquot;

Congresswoman Matsui has long been a champion for a robust clean energy economy, and has offered legislation aimed at supporting local clean-tech businesses and reducing our dependence on foreign oil. She has represented the Sacramento region on the powerful Energy and Commerce Committee since 2008, where she advocates for policies that would mitigate the effects of climate change and lead to new innovations in the renewable energy and energy efficiency fields.

SEEC was founded in 2009 at the start of the 111th Congress by then co-chairs Congressmen Jay Inslee and Steve Israel. It began with 35 charter members, and now six years later has grown to 51 members, and has established itself as a key "green" voice in Congress.
