Congresswoman Matsui Statement on the Administration's Plan to Cut Methane Emissions
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06), a member of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, issued the following statement after the Administration announced plans to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40-45 percent from 2012 levels by 2025:
"I am pleased that the Administration is announcing a path forward to cut methane emissions from the oil and gas sector by 40-45 percent by 2025. Methane is a potent and dangerous greenhouse gas pollutant that is harmful to our environment. Reducing these emissions means that Americans will be healthier, while helping save up to 180 billion cubic feet of natural gas by 2025, enough to heat more than 2 million homes for a year. Today's announcement is a crucial step forward in tackling climate change and strengthening our economy, and I applaud the President for working to keep our communities and families healthy and safe."
