Congresswoman Matsui Statement on the California Department of Public Health's Announcement that UC System Hospitals Stand Ready and Prepared to Treat Ebola

CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) issued the following statement after the California Department of Public Health announced that the five University of California system hospitals, including UC Davis Medical Center, are prepared and willing to treat Ebola cases as needed:

"While there are no known cases of Ebola in California at this time, it is essential that our state and our region are vigilant and prepared. Hospitals across the country have been taking steps to ensure they are ready to appropriately handle any potential cases of Ebola that may arise. Today's announcement by the California Department of Public Health is further evidence of our state's readiness, and our University of California system hospitals, including UC Davis Medical Center, are to be commended for being prepared."

Recently, Congresswoman Matsui convened a meeting with local Sacramento stakeholders to proactively discuss the Sacramento region's preparedness for Ebola and other public health crises. The meeting was attended by representatives from Dignity Health, Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento, Sutter Medical Center, Sacramento, U.C. Davis Health System, Sacramento County Public Health, and the Sacramento International Airport. As follow up from the meeting, the Congresswoman sent a letter to the region's four hospital systems posing a number of follow-up questions on the hospitals' policies and procedures.
