Congresswoman Matsui Statement on the California Flood Futures Report
CA - Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) released the following statement on the California Flood Futures Report released by the California Department of Water Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers:
"The release of today's report is a reminder to all Californians that our state faces a serious threat of flooding. This is especially true for the city of Sacramento which is situated at the confluence of the American and Sacramento Rivers and faces a constant threat of flooding. Flood protection is essential to the safety and economic vitality of our region, and it is critical that there is a continued investment in efforts to minimize Sacramento's risk of flooding.
"With thousands of lives, $70 billion of infrastructure and over 2,000 critical facilities in Sacramento River watershed's floodplain alone, this report should be a call to action to step up federal, state and local efforts to improve our level of flood protection. No one level of government can do it alone, so it is imperative that all parties work together to overcome the fiscal and policy challenges in front of us. Finishing the Folsom Dam Joint Federal Project, Natomas levee improvements, and tackling the next phase of urban levee improvements is and remains my number one priority in Congress, and I will continue to fight every day to see these critical projects completed.andquot;
