Congresswoman Matsui Statement on Clean Air Month

CA In celebration of May as National Clean Air Month, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D Sacramento) released the following statement today:

As your Representative in Congress, I am committed to working with my colleagues to advance policies that protect the air we breathe and the water we drink. As we commemorate this May as Clean Air Month, we must redouble our efforts to preserve our natural resources and ensure that harmful pollutants are kept to a minimum.

We are making great progress toward limiting our region's carbon emissions, but we must continue to do more to ensure that our children and grandchildren can enjoy the parks, bike trails, and rivers that make Sacramento such a wonderful place to live, work, and play. I encourage our community to team together and make this effort a reality; take public transportation, carpool, and bike to nearby locations instead of driving when possible. Small changes such as these can make a vast improvement in the quality of air we breathe.

This is one of the reasons why I am so supportive of Sacramento's efforts to become a regional leader in the emerging clean energy industry. Our region has the opportunity to create new jobs for our local workforce, support our small businesses and entrepreneurs, and help us achieve true economic recovery even as we ensure the long-term health and viability of our environment. Together, we can put Sacramento on the path toward being a more sustainable city with cleaner air, cleaner water, and a leading clean-technology industrial center.
