Congresswoman Matsui Statement on Passage of Full Funding for the Department of Homeland Security
Today, Congresswoman Doris Matsui (CA-06) released the following statement after the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 240, clean legislation fully funding the Department of Homeland Security (DHS):
"Homeland security funding is a necessity, not a bargaining chip. I am relieved that the House acted in a bipartisan fashion today to strengthen our homeland and protect the American people by fully funding the Department of Homeland Security."
H.R. 240, clean legislation fully funding DHS passed the United States Senate last week by a vote of 68 to 31. On Friday, February 27, House Republican leadership refused to bring the Senate-passed bill to the House floor for a vote. With hours remaining before the deadline, Friday evening the House passed legislation funding DHS for one week. Today, the House of Representatives voted 257-167, passing clean legislation fully funding DHS.
