202-225-7163 Congresswoman Matsui Statement on Republican Budget Proposal Congresswoman Doris Matsui (D-CA) released the following statement regarding House Republicans' budget proposal for Fiscal Year 2017: "The Republican Budget proposal would have devastating consequences on our seniors and hard working families. With $6.5 trillion in proposed cuts, this budget will put us on a backward path, reversing progress we have made on job creation, education, and infrastructure improvements. "I'm particularly disappointed that the budget proposes to end the Medicare guarantee for seniors. We should be working to strengthen, not weaken, critical programs like Medicare that ensure older Americans have access to essential benefits they need to maintain a dignified retirement. "The American people deserve a budget that strengthens the middle class, makes investments in innovation, bolsters our infrastructure, and values the education of future generations.
